Vincent Farrentino - HANZ KRYPT
I was born in Pittsburgh, PA our Family moved to Los Angeles, California in the early 70s. Growing up in Pittsburgh was mostly about sports as it seemed the whole town was focused on sports. I really started to get into music by the time I was 11 years old. Me and my friends started listening to bands like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. We went to a lot of concerts because my uncles where bikers and would have huge parties with bands and kegs of beer and my uncles took me to see Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd and a lot more shows. We all grew our hair long to look like the rock stars of the time.
I started wanting to be in a band by the time I was 13 yrs old. I was always singing along with the radio, or records. People started to notice that and said I had a good voice and when I was 15 I was at a hall party my friends band was going to play and their singer did not show up, so the guitar player of the band, which was called Medusa, asked me if I wanted to sing. He gave me their setlist and I knew about 6 songs on it and so I went up and sang “Train Kept A Rollin’” by Aerosmith, “Cities on Flames” by Blue Oyster Cult, Black Sabbath’s “Electric Funeral” and “Paranoid” and UFO’s “Rock Bottom”.
I had a blast it was so much fun that I joined the band and we changed the name to Black Rain. We played parties and clubs in Hollywood and this lasted for 2yrs then I went on to join a band called Night Stalker. This lasted a year then I joined a speed metal band in 1982 called Vermin. We played all over southern California: The Whiskey, The Roxy, The Troubadour in Hollywood. Then we played at a local park and I met these guys that where really into Black Sabbath, so was I and they invited me over to their rehearsal and we jammed and it all came together.
The guitar player was great, the best guitarist around. His name was Phil Pedritti. He won 11 guitar contests, no defeats. We wrote some heavy songs like “Wasting Time and Never Fails Resurrection”. We played with Slayer, Metalica, Wasp, Robin Trower and many more national acts. HANZ KRYPT was together about 10yrs, some of the original members got into drugs and ended up leaving and things got bad, so we disbanded in 1994.
8yrs later my friend put our old songs on YouTube and they had some positive results and Manos from Cult Metal Classics got a hold of us and we put out the CD tales from “The Krypt”, which came out in 2016. Currently we are working on a new CD called “Mist and Shadows”. The current lineup is vocalist: Vincent Farrentino, guitarist: Larry Roseve, bass: Gemini Williams and drums: Randy Taz Von Uden. We are from Venice Beach, California and you can find us on Facebook: Hanz Krypt, or Youtube and SoundCloud.
Thank you,
Vincent Farrentino
