Elkhorn - “Other Worlds” :: Cardinal Fuzz / Feeding Tube Records / Deep Water Acres / Sunrise Ocean Bender Records

Explosions of cosmic activity speak in unraveled tongues, while eagerly sifting through discarded debris from a Casanova vacuum dream. Canyons of dilapidated witnesses gaze at the mere residue with an attempt to materialize the scorched remnants of radical sunsets setting over holy mountains someplace far east. Where brainstorming shadows budget their lucrative hauntings and the infamous Lazarus effect kicks in just in time for the band’s encore, New York’s choice group, Elkhorn, return with a mighty collection of jams entitled “Other Worlds”. From birth to established death, borns this ritualistic subscription into the sights and sounds of maniacal influence and counter culture backfire. From dusk till the dawn of time occurs the feedback repetition of crazed rhythm and deity dynamics. From a wide range of antiqued tone and flowing, fluorescent formation, adds an exciting installment to the band’s radical repertoire.

Recorded in the spring of 2021, Elkhorn took form once again as a trio for their most recent effort, “Other Worlds”. Featuring friend and creative colleague Ian McColm on drums, the band set out to shape shift under the alien limelight to present their most crucial transmission yet. Amongst a crowd of metallic missionaries all bound to an elemental dream that casts fabricated spells into the ether of abandoned ideas and mosaic meditations. Elkhorn manages to embrace the headiness of the world during the hight of the pandemic and PTSD politics of 2021. Their language is spoken clearly into the ears of their dedicated listeners, while the trio expresses the pure abundance and celebratory cultism of improved balance found throughout the album’s feral ecosystem. There’s always an exceptional sense of environmental paranormal when it comes to an Elkhorn record. With tracks such as “Meganulon”, “Queen of Blood” and the album’s opener “Watching the Skies”, an earthly manifestation of history and cultural phenomena bleeds from the planetary pores. The ever so busy volumes of volcanic eruption engulf the whimsical prayers of earthbound audiences, whose exhausted minds reek from metaphysical practice.

This album is a heaping slab of space rock! A cycle of free form jams in the tradition of Mahavishnu, Floyd and Earth

Buried deep in the depths of some mythically jeweled labyrinth lays dormant the ectoplasmic airwaves of what this band is truly capable of. Expressed so effortlessly are three musicians that simply enjoy the cosmic space in which they write and manifestation their huge sound. Whether they present themselves as the classic duo, a trinity of trio trickery, or the rare quartet, which can be found demonstrated on 2019’s “Sun Cycle / Elk Jam”, Elkhorn never cease to amaze as they carry back their rare harvested finds from astral navigations for the not so faint of heart.
