Fabiano do Nascimento :: “Solstice Concert”

From the atmospheric alchemy of Brazil’s rich and wonderfully whispering world of textural tones and cultural commitment to the human spirit resides a young guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer, Fabiano do Nascimento. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro and currently based in Los Angeles, do Nascimento’s work has escaped the eager imagination by demonstrating lush bravery that effortlessly echoes his contemporaries in a rich and culturally complex way. Having first hit the scene with Now-Again’s Triorganico in the late 2000s, do Nascimento introduced his now iconic sound in 2015 with his first official solo effort, “Dança Dos Tempos,” and hasn’t looked back since. Over the last decade, the musician has shaped a critical career in sound, a fundamental fascination for his instrument, and an elaborate eye for striking detail. Accomplishing an array of atmospheric attitudes across his new album entitled “Solstice Concert,” released on Leaving Records, is a live effort that exercises the elemental experimentation of poetic preservation, do Nascimento, alongside an eager ensemble of musicians such as Sam Gendel, Gabe Noel, and Tamir Barzilay, breaks through the cosmic chains of comfort, and control by exploring the universally uncharted pathways of live music at full capacity.

Blending the ceremonial execution of Brazilian bewilderment, esoteric efforts, and the highly sought-after freedoms associated with fusion and jazz, do Nascimento locates the nerve center with his fellow bandmates and quickly executes the tonal tasks before him. Directly from the board, “Solstice Concert” poetically provokes a universally unique place in the musician’s radiating repertoire by continuing to unfold like a lyrical lotus flower someplace sacred and humid with holy vibration. With tracks such as “Train to Imagination,” “Nene’s Song,” and the ever-expanding ecosystem of the album’s epic ender “Floresta dos Sonhos” burning through the atmosphere like some almighty anomaly, “Solstice Concert” is quite possibly one of do Nascimento’s most breathtaking efforts to date even though the show’s recording was entirely unknown to the band at the time. Channeling the concrete evidence of cosmic activity via a series of eclectic instruments such as a 7-string guitar, soprano guitar/saxophone, MIDI saxophone, and electronic drums, the album’s core is melodically medicinal, and we could all use a dose right now.
