Six Organs of Admittance - “Companion Rises” (Twig Harper Remix) - Drag City :: 09/27

Clung to some sliver serpent like a rotted cross widened with giant splinters and scars that are nearly seen through. Vital to sustaining those bleached truths told, Six Organs of Admittance has always been unchained from the chief memories of spiritualism and the global delight of metaphysics that produce projectile dimensionalism in favor of lasting death and the picking patterns of the primitive guitar style. Suffocated temple hydraulics pressure the spurting orchids in their hot jungle habitat, while thick silver smoke quivers and gasps towards a flickering village. Lengthy shadows touch the surface with torched marble hands from maraschino-blood red cells, while musical maps produce huge syrupy dreams from the blind mind of a fortune-teller someplace far and quaint. Broken bones under dark green light swing in and out of a rustic frame by way of particles and yet the body still transcends both the timing and the procedure of the astral projection phenomenon. There are so many shades of existence, but something that’s so well-preserved within Chasny’s work is the always revolving door of atmospheric temperature within his beloved music.

Coming off the release of not just one record this year, but three with "Time Is Glass", “Jinxed By Being”, a collaboration with Sam Shackleton, and the incredible revision of 2020s “Companion Rises” with Twig Harper that is set for release later this fall on Drag City. A totally eclipsing recall of an already instant classic, Chasny teams up with James Twig Harper, known for his heightened presence in groups such as Nautical Almanac and The Beast People, to further extend the cosmic narrative of the twin record to “Time Is Glass”. Pushing the broad limits of electrified quotes on a used telepathic connection to the past, the duo cast the most reliable line into the grand Bardo of rhythm and texture for what makes a great collaboration you didn’t see coming. Chaney has gone on record to say that:

“Companion Rises was my most labor intensive record I have done. I worked on it every day for over half a year. Then it was released in late February of 2020. Not exactly the best month to release a record. A few years later I thought, what would “Companion Rises” sound like if I had known what was in store for that year?”

Separating life from the roaring river with the flick of a severed wrist, a rapid wrinkle in time is caused by this radical reaction, which, in retrospect, was lying dormant as the cultural storm of the last near half-decade rages on without any sort of mercy, or grace. Reimagine this dystopian nightmare brought on by Thomas Moore, where the album distorts the level playing field, while simultaneously reimagining the harsh landscape of some fever dream plateau. What makes this album and its already rich history so unique is that its listeners have had some 4 years to become familiar with the contrast of “Companion Rises”, before diving into the startling mediation and visceral visions of its unparalleled twin hive mind. Its cosmic Caracas has spun out of control in fresh orbit in just the perfect amount of time for these two musicians to finally meet in the middle of someplace out west. Someplace way out west. You can expect this album to crash-land on the 27th of September via the fine folks over at Drag City.
