Joe Wyman Speaks Briefly On The Legacy Of The Scorpions

Even though Wyman was only part of The Scorpions history for a brief time, it was a pinnacle moment for the band and also for Joe’s career in music that has spanned for 50 years. This is a brief piece written by Joe Wyman that includes photos from his time in the band, unless other wise noted.

PBG, FL HS Marching Band: Joe is the tallest guy, bottom right.

The Scorpions circa: 1965 (Joe is not included in the band during this time.)

Circa: 1972. Joe is located to the far right.

The Joe Wyman and the Blackouts is my current band. I do nothing with Masters and Sinners now. Born in Israel, but lived most of my life in USA. My elementary school started a school band and I joined not knowing what instrument I would be playing.

Circa: 1972. Joe is in middle

The music teacher looked on the instrument list and saw there were no drummers, so she asked me if I wanted to be a drummer. I said yes and that is how I started drums. When I got my first full drum set and really learned to play that is when I knew I had some talent. I like all styles of music and grew up listening to Cream, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Black Sabbath. Playing with amazing musicians is always a thrill.

1972 Scorpions back stage before a concert. Michael Schenker on the top was only 16-17 years old.

Live concert circa: December of 1972 (same as the very top photo).

When Dave and I do shows together, it is two shows in one night. We both use the same band members and when Dave does his show there is a different drummer. I just started Joe Wyman and the Blackouts last year so 5-6 shows last year and this year working and planning 20+ shows. No studio work yet. We have two different shows. The Scorpions Experience (all Scorpions songs) and JW and The Blackouts with original hard rock-metal songs and a few covers including Scorpions. Been teaching drums and playing professionally in local bands in Florida.

Michael Schenker, Joe Wyman, Lothar Heimberg, Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker circa: 1972.

Now I am in Mexico, so I am doing the same. Since the 80’s, I have become an honorary member of the band and get to go back stage and hang out with them at any concert they play. Future plans is 20+ shows this year and a some festivals. Cream, The Who, Led Zeppelin. Would love to go to Russia to rock there and visit. My mom was from Russia. Keep your love for classic rock and metal and always support your local bands. KEEP ON ROCKIN!!!
