Dexter + Franz Debut New Album “Flamingo Heights” On Nudie Records
Dexter + Franz: a meditation in minimalism and a soundtrack for long hikes through lush landscapes.
I interviewed Novak earlier this year, who’s work can be found under the Dark Canyon moniker, when his most recent album came out on Nudie Records. When he hit me up to check out his new project with fellow bandmate and collaborater John Dexter, I was definitely on board. The atmospheric duo Dexter + Franz explore planetary tones and boundless textures that remind listeners of Asimov and Clarke’s historical mediations in sci-fi and cultural phenomenons. With the wide talents of both musicians and their abilities to strategically highlight both the abstract and the spirituality of life, the material expresses both nature and an urban sense of existence. “Flamingo Heights” is only the introduction into this duos already rich and diverse world of radical efforts to express and explore the endless possibilities of sound.
The album and its ten tracks stretch across a digital wilderness of retro perfection. With numbers such as “Autostrada”, “Glass Of Wine For Harold” and “Reel Breezy” all lurking in a timeless fluid of New Wave worship, Dexter + Franz seek a simple possession of genuine fascination into their own Weird Science. Reagan imposed shapes clashed with contemporary times, the duos music is a medicinal collection with the opening track expressing this flawless romance from youth to adulthood. Now available on both vinyl and as a digital album via Nudie Records. This record is a great transition into autumn and winter as we all humbly begin to crawl towards our soft satin caves to hibernate and mediate the countless nights till spring summons us once again.
