Boon - “Morning’s” :: Super Wimpy Punch - 5.15.20
From the depths of a billowing stomach filled with cartoon smoke and holy coal lurks a brimstone language spoken with soothing accuracy. Its minced words casted over bitter ink and bones both elderly sore, while a cautious wind stirs some random poetry reading hosted by headless masters in the night. Boon is a Philly based group that’s been making collected sounds as far back as 2016. Engulfing their audience in soft light and tech tone meditations, one can only inquire about the texture and methodically punched out atmosphere they so effortlessly produce. Having released a number of singles and an EP leading up to 2020’s “Morning’s”, the band has been able to accurately surf the brow of the timid surface before puncturing its still vibrating plates with a staggeringly vivid body of work. An all out practice of laughter, maniac motion and free form soul searching, Boon finds a way to truly chip away at the pharaoh stone as they climb towards a blistering horizon.
Across the album’s 8 tracks explores this stellar narrative of divine rebirth through exhausted entries and exits from that of an alien suit. Disguised with glowing ornaments and collected materials, we find “Morning’s” to be this delicate exchange between ancient color and luminscent botany. With tracks like “Blossom”, “Mark” and the album’s full circle ender “Morning”, Boon shatter the icy ego with familiarity and inspiration from its peers. And without any sort of hesitation, or anxiety they stare the remarkable mask directly in its eyes as it reflects into the clear pool of dreams and combined riches.
