Little Wings returns to Perpetual Doom w/ “High on the Glade” :: 6/7
Sunday morning cartoon ritual watching wrapped in cold-cut, ceremonial weather. Backward laughter against orchestral guest house invites and sonar ticket punchers. Strangers creeping through FM stations desperate for some sunset algorithm in backroad country. That was then and this is now... A collection of soapy anthems both floating hysterically and casually represented as brief moments in still life magic, Little Wings releases yet another wonderful artifact from the captivating mind of Kyle Field with “High on the Glade”. Both Mesmerizing and comedic, Field returns to Perpetual Doom with something pleasant and eagerly awaiting on your marble, bedside table. A distance inhabited by mangosteen and wild rock formations where locals swim patiently between thought and action. “High on the Glade” is a celebration of what has always lurked beyond the rainbow. A bleeding heart wrapped in soft piano wire who’s muse is everything and anything all at once.
Across the album’s 10 tracks, Field brings his listeners along for a tour in both botany and ancient theatre trickery. With numbers like the album’s single “Bubbles Go Pop”, “Coconut Tree”, “Goatshead Soup”, “Handful of Earth”, “High on the Glade” brings a humbling resolution to the human spirit who’s in constant flux and wicked transition. Painted in vintage plaid while straddling the prehistoric crest of some salt water mountain. Fragments of nostalgia pierce the wet suit of creative armory despite the ugly echo and ache of swimmer’s ear. Joined by folks such as Tim Ramsey, Kyle Mullarky, Kramer and Adam Moss, Field orchestrates a brilliance of song and emotion without hesitation as the void of nuclear freedom rears its crooked head back for acknowledgment from its human peers. Set for release in early June on the always promising Perpetual Doom label, Little Wings is an institution of peace, rhythm, poetry and blanketed comfort. Everything from the mind and heart of Field is right as rain.
