Shackleton & Six Organs of Admittance announce debut album - “Jinxed by Being” on Drag City :: 6/28

A spellbound exploration between illustrated glass whose fractured and bruised fantasies depict luscious Rococo dreamscapes someplace far and scared. Recovered mares meditate patiently in esoteric catacombs with marble walls and blistered laughter echoing through its ancient hallways of damp books and antique air. Juxtaposition sunsets roar with invigorating crowds, their swollen tongues and whistling cheeks all calculated and mildly ballistic. Holy shadows forged via liquid metal, while cataclysmic vibrations hum some melody of the matrix to come. Some artists are engulfed by the parallels and potential pressures of collaboration, but these two masters know the infinite realm of possibilities and what can happen if you sharpen your blade just right. A harrowing feat whose otherworldly travels through the vagus nerve and up into the left and right hemispheres displays this mandala pattern of color, sound and musical glory.
Nothing in this world is beyond our fleshy grasp if one is so eager and brave to reach into the pool of infinity. With the exciting partnership of the cosmic duo that consist of Sam Shackleton and Six Organs of Admittance’s Ben Chasny and the debut of new album entitled “Jinxed by Being” , there may be hope for us after all as we begin penetrating the moon in the foreseeable future in hopes to bury our deepest/darkest secrets in some alien landscape. Across the albums seven tracks one can expect to hear this lingering salt mist ricocheting off prehistoric quartz as it settles at your feet. A sprawling body of work that explores the teething sense that we are not alone, but completely isolated from spirituality, the hunger for abstract knowledge and lust for peace. Opening with “The Voice and the Pulse”, the album immediately reflects on the intimate narrative between the mind and body that transcends space and time. A complicated force interwoven with speech breathing down our necks, its breath moist and fierce with ancient truth, it begins to naw on one’s thoughts and interior dialogue till memory fades and the bardo reveals itself in the aftershock. There are many themes throughout the album that would seem radical to some, but for others a picnic for the soul to begin unravelling and loosening its tight grip on just what people are capable of conjuring up from the depths of their motivated hearts. This is a double Lp, over an hours worth of music. For some of it, I ran off percussion tracks I played on the original 4-tracks of early 6Ø for Shackleton to sample and re-sequence on parts to combine with his trademark rhythmic sense, so it is maybe the most old-school sounding Six Organs record I could do without trying to sound like I was reanimating one of my old records
A skeletal albatross carries the ears of its audience across a muddy, bone polluted land where one can hear the prehistoric hymns of “Electrical Storm” and “Spring will Return / Oliver’s Letter” surrounding the elder and its youth in some pinball eternity. The album’s first single, “Stages of Capitulations” effortlessly echos through dilapidated visions of cosmic murmurs and jester rhythms both dire and cautiously infinite. “Jinxed by Being” is a bold and potently patterned collection of songs, meditations, polished prose and insistent perspectives on the metaphysical approach to human expression. Set for release on June 28th from the fine folks over at Drag City, this collaboration is a stunner and an wicked artifact from two greats simply sharing a space together.
