Nap Eyes make epic return w/ two new tracks via Paradise of Bachelors

We last spoke to Nigel Chapman, frontman of Halifax, Nova Scotia’s very own Nap Eyes, almost a year ago to the day on The Self Portrait Gospel Podcast. Our conversation covered numerous topics and anecdotes, but one in particular was about the severities of the COVID pandemic and how it impacted musicians/artists from around the world. Something most creatives would never dream of, let alone have to endure, while also having to navigate a hell scape of psychic dread, ultimate reflection and finical terror. We shared a calm, humbling and at times, comedic conversation about what it means to be an artist and band in this day and age, while Chapman walked his dog on a warm May, summer day in Halifax. I find Nap Eyes’ music to be a wonderful blend of optimistic pop excellence, whose romantic gestures into the soft ether of space and time make them quite unique and incredibly resilient if you haven’t already noticed throughout their near decade and a half long career.

Having released the band’s fourth album entitled, “Snapshot of a Beginner” on Jajjaguwar just in the midst of the pandemic in 2020, this unfortunately set an unforeseeable tone for the band’s future and like most creative acts, they patiently laid dormant for what seemed like an eternity. With an epic return with wide open arms from the folks over at Paradise of Bachelors, Nap Eyes have released two, brand new tracks entitled “Feline Wave Race” and “Ice Grass Underpass”. A spectacular blend of melancholic rhythms and pastel performance, the band infuses their NYC heroes into an eleagant stream of pop consciousness. An historic appreciation for streamlining lyrics into a rhythmic vacuum, whose gears and structure liquidates negativity and hopelessness into an optimistic narrative. Casting into the cold depths of the critical ‘Dream Machine’, Nap Eyes awaking the sleeping factory to bring a fresh breath of air to the salty surface where the crest meets the horizon in some collaborative effort to bring melody and molecules together in a stir-crazed harmony. A telepathic EP that supplies animated dopamine into the lungs and veins of its long awaited listeners.
